Sandra asks…

Shirley Allen answers:
Yes they are. I believe Tim Gunn from Project runway uses them himself. I remember reading it in GQ Magazine or something. Believe it or not, I actually have the Oil Control Daily Hydrator right in front of me lol. Thats so weiiirrddd…..anyways, I bought it. Must be good lol. Im a skincare junkie. Hahahaha…
Btw….look into Jack Black All Day Oil-Control Lotion with Kaolin, Cotton and Vitamin E if you want a men’s moisturiser for oily skin. It actually won a Men’s health grooming Award.
EDIT***
oh darn, they dont sell it at Boots.
But like I said before, if you want a mattifying moisturiser, dont limit yourself to men’s products. For obvious reasons, women have the best products. Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion SPF 20 is excellent.
EDIT****
darn, boots doesn’t have it either.
Anyways, Lab Series is excellent. So is Anthony Logistics. The hydrator from Lab Series is definitely mattifying. Night recovery is great. I’ve never tried the Oil Control Solution though. Good luck. Here are some reviews:

btw…If you go to a Lab Series counter, they can analyze your skin with this machine so they can recommend the right products for you. I had an analysis done and they said I had beautiful skin lol.

Donna asks…
If a chemical in a skin care product causes cancer, would you let your teen use it?
A lot of the teens on the skin care board are really using a lot of benzoyl peroxide. Should these products maybe state on the label or something that benzoyl peroxide is used to induce skin cancer in lab animals for skin cancer research?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=pubmed&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=2507187&ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVAbstractPlus
Department of Dermatology Skin Diseases Research Center, University Hospitals of Cleveland, OH.
It is known that the free-radical-generating compound, benzoyl peroxide (BPO) enhances malignant conversion of murine skin benign papillomas into carcinomas.
If there is such a difference between rodent and human skin, why are they using the rodents to test skin cancer drugs for humans? What, the results of the drug tests are okay and helpful for humans but how we get it is different?
FDA MedWatch…
Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be a tumor promoter and progression agent in a
number of animal studies. The clinical significance of this is unknown.
Benzoyl peroxide in acetone at doses of 5 and 10 mg administered twice per week induced
skin tumors in transgenic Tg.AC mice in a study using 20 weeks of topical treatment.
In a 52 week dermal photocarcinogenicity study in hairless mice, the median time to onset
of skin tumor formation was decreased and the number of tumors per mouse
increased following chronic concurrent topical administration of BenzaClin Topical Gel
with exposure to ultraviolet radiation (40 weeks of treatment followed by 12 weeks of
observation).

If it is used to turn benign papillomas (like a pimple) to malignant papillomas in lab animals at ONLY 5-10% applied ONLY 2 times a week from ONE source, How can the chem manufacturer state that it doesn’t?

Shirley Allen answers:
That’s horrible! All those companies care about is money and they don’t care about people. They’d rather sell a dangerous product to millions of people, versus going out of business!
Anyways, no. I wouldn’t let my kid use it.
And for the person who said that the FDA would take that off the shelves if it caused cancer, the FDA keeps lots of drugs on the shelves knowing that they’re dangerous.

James asks…
How to get a career in creating and researching skin care?
I always loved the skin and I want to know if there are any jobs out there that I can pursue that work in like labs for like Clinique or big name skin care companies making and researching skin care product?
![]()
Shirley Allen answers:
Well, I don’t have an educated answer for you I would guess that the people who develop skin care products are chemists.

Nancy asks…
What’s the difference between the cheaper and more expensive men’s skin care products?
What’s the difference between facial washes, scrubs, moisturisers from the likes of lab series, menscience, anthony logistics, and the cheaper versions from the likes of clearasil and nivea for men? What extra benefits do you get from the more expensive products? Or is it a bit like designer labels on clothes; you’re just paying for the labels?

Shirley Allen answers:
Some times it’s nothing, some times it’s a lot. You can’t make a generalized statement about a wide grouping of products like that. You need to be specific, is X designer product really better than Y store brand?
Think of it this way, a Lexus might be better than a Kia, but a Bentley kicks both to the curb.

Betty asks…
What brand of men’s skin care do you recommend?
Brands like Lab Series, Zirh, Jack Black, MenScience, Keihl’s, etc. I’m kind of clueless with this stuff..
@Who Shott Ya – So, when did having crappy skin make you a real man? Quit living in the caveman days.. Live in the is, not the was.

Shirley Allen answers:
I say none, if your a real man yo wouldn’t be using that crap
